The Huddersfield Car Boot Sale is back at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday (October 16) and Huddersfield Hub has a special one-day-only half-price offer for sellers.

Instead of £10 per vehicle sellers who mention ‘Huddersfield Hub’ will get their pitch for just £5.

The new car boot – on the top car park at the stadium off St Andrew’s Road – started in August and has proved really popular with an average of 140-150 sellers at each event.

The car boot, which is on hard-standing and has toilets and floodlighting, is held every Sunday unless there is a football or rugby league match or another pre-booked event at the stadium such as the regular Huddersfield Driving Experience.

Since its launch on August 21, it’s been a bit stop-start due to various sports fixtures and events but operator Jerome O’Malley, of National Car Boot Sales, said: “It’s a great location and the response has been fantastic.

“We operate some of the biggest car boot sales around at the likes of Leeds-Bradford Airport, Wetherby and Bolton, and Huddersfield ticks every box.

“It’s been a bit stop-start but we’re back this Sunday (October 16) and we have a pretty clear run right through until Christmas.”

Thousands of buyers have already visited Huddersfield and Jerome expects more sellers and buyers over the next few weeks as grass-based car boots elsewhere shut down for the winter.

“We are only going to get bigger,” said Jerome. “We have great facilities with toilets, floodlighting, plenty of parking and food options including English, Greek and halal along with fresh coffee and cakes. There’s something for all tastes.”

The car boot sale is only on one side of the car park at the moment which means the other side can be used for disabled parking, ensuring the site is more accessible for those who can’t climb the steps.

Entry to the car boot is £1 per adult to help cover costs but as the car boot grows – probably next year – that charge could be scrapped.

Jerome said the cost-of-living crisis meant more people were becoming traders to supplement their income and car boots had become the new testing ground for small businesses. However, they remained a great place to pick up a bargain.

Huddersfield Car Boot is open to sellers from 7am and buyers from 8am. It closes around 1pm. Dogs are welcome.

  • The Huddersfield Hub £5 per vehicle offer refers only to Sunday October 16. The offer is operated at the discretion of National Car Boot Sales.
