An amazing Groom Cup tie between Grange Moor Saints and Scissett FC didn’t just come down to penalties – it came down to goalkeepers taking penalties with the score locked at an incredible 9-9!

There was no hint of the drama to come with the teams level at 1-1 at half-time. But the Saints soon looked to be matching on in the cup when they went 4-1 up thanks to a hat-trick from Cameron Wilkey and a goal from Stephen Chandler.

However, Scissett fought back and goals from Richard Humphrey (two), Chris Martin and Lewis Palk levelled the tie at 4-4 and sent the game to penalties.

The teams couldn’t be separated after nine spotkicks each and it was down to the goalkeepers to decide the result. The Scissett keeper scored his penalty and then saved his opposite number’s spotkick to end an entertaining cup tie played in good spirits and well managed by referee Adam Farmer.

Meanwhile, in the Barlow Cup Berry Brow with goals from Wayne Shooter (two), Luke Gibson, Joe Brennan and Thomas Oakes (two) beat Shelley 6-2. Shelley’s goals were scored by Chris Parker.

A Mike Annoville goal and a hattrick from Jacob Waterson sent Britannia Sports through to the next round in a 4-3 over Fothergill & Whittles.

Netherton travelled to Kirkburton and goals from Ryan Burchael and Nathan Chappell sent them through in a hard fought 2-1 win. James Coleman scored for Kirkburton.

Shepley beat Cumberworth 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw on 90 minutes. Ashley Beardsall, Tom Dyson (two) and Daniel Middleton (two) scored for Slaithwaite United in their 5-3 win away at Diggle.

A Billy Prady goal sent Holme Valley Academicals through in a 1-0 win at home to Almondbury Woolpack.

Lepton Highlanders were out of luck meeting high flying Newsome and were soundly beaten 10-0. Josimar Bradshaw (three), Kyle Walton (four), Doran Jordan, Wayde Moses and Trae Gabriel scoring for Newsome.

Kirkheaton Rovers overran struggling Marsh United in a 14-2 win. Ben Hallitt (five), Jonathan Lodge (three), Elliott McNab (two), Jonathan Askin (two), Oliver Martin and Daniel Hallitt all scoring for Kirkheaton. Scholes knocked out Huddersfield LH 3-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw.

Back to the Groom Cup and Paul Pyke and Dwayne Wilkinson were on the mark as Deighton squeezed past Brook Motors 2-1. Jack Turner scored for Brooks.

Hade Edge are also through to the next round with goals from Lewis Barden, Brad Taylor, Adam Taylor (two) and Rory Hunt in a 5-1 win over neighbours Holmfirth Town.

Joe Hampshaw (two) and Oliver Haigh scored for Wooldale Wanderers as they beat AFC Volunteers 3-1. Ryan Matthews scored for the Volunteers.

Mount bowed out at the first hurdle despite a brace from Jay Wells losing 3-2 to Saddleworth United whose goals were scored by Tommy Burns (two) and Oliver Harris. Thorpe Giants lost at home to Brighouse Athletic 5-2 whose goals were scored by Sam Roberts (three) and Ben Lock (two) and West End Park beat Cartworth Moor 6-1.

Honley with goals from Jermaine Edwards (two), Zach Ainley and Ryan Ralph just edged out Flockton 4-3. Flockton’s goals were scored by Spencer Moorhouse, Conar Young and Lewis Reed.

In the Richardson Cup Linthwaite Athletic beat Scholes 2-0 and Meltham Athletic beat Shelley 4-0 with goals from Liam Carmody, Toby Farrington, James Hutchinson and Louis Carmody.

Daniel Goodwin, Tom Buckley and James Phillips scored for Holmbridge as they beat Brook Motors 3-2. Scissett drew with Britannia Sports A 3-3 and went through to the next round winning 6-5 on penalties.

Raymond Chingombe and Ben Cornelly scored for Berry Brow A as they went through to the next round of the Gee Cup in their 2-1 win over Cumberworth B. Ronan Greenwood scored for Cumberworth.

Adam Fell (two), Daniel Garton and Nathan Waterhouse scored for Berry Brow A as they also progressed into the next round with a 4-2 win over Brook Motors Development. Scorers for Brooks were Patrick Clarke-Spears and Shane Brook.

A Josh Moore hat-trick and goals from James North and Ben Boulton sent Slaithwaite United through to the next round beating Hade Edge A in a close game 5-3. Scorers for Hade Edge were Daniel Holmes, Mike Boulares and Louie James Taylor.

Deighton A with goals from Jason Helm (three), Leevan Brown, Amari David and Karlmani Furey progressed to the next round with a 6-2 win over Scissett Development. Aidan Geldart and Richard Sterling scoring for Scissett.

In League action Heywood Irish Centre continued their winning run, in Division 1 with goals from Kieron and Nathan Mayall in a 2-0 win over Skelmanthorpe.

In the reserve section, Division 1, Dalton Dynamos beat Diggle 3-2 and Newsome beat Scholes 3-0 with goals from George Sommerville, Adam Hill and Dean Wharam.

Berry Brow made the short trip to Netherton and goals from Lee Wharam (two) and Junior Bent saw them take the points in a 3-2 win.

Deighton beat Britannia Sports 5-1 with goals from Dominic McDonald-Webster, Jordan Ghani, Dwayne Willie and Omar Sinclair (two). In Division 2 AFC Lindley outplayed Kirkburton with goals from Usman Adelekelo, Luke Webb (three), Danny Wright, Tom Crabtree and Johnathan Krishnapillal (two) in an 8-0 win.  

Skelmanthorpe moved up to third in Division 3 with a 3-2 win over Grange Moor Saints with goals from Richard Alderson (two) and Richard Hinchliffe. Elijah Roy and Ross McEwen scored for the Saints.

A goal from Isaac Barker was enough for Cumberworth A to move up to fourth in their 1-0 win over Netherton A. Nicky Pike and Morgan Taylor scored for Linthwaite A in their 2-0 over Hade Edge.

Shepley Reserves move up to second in Division 4 with a 9-1 win over bottom club West End Park Development. Shepley’s goals were scored by Elliott George (three), Scott Sykes (three), Harrison English, Matthew Lambe and Andrew Sylvester.
