Kirklees Council has confirmed that work to re-open landslip-hit Dalton Bank Road will start in early 2025.
By that time the road, which runs from Colne Bridge through to Dalton, will have been shut for a year.
The cliff-edge road was closed after a landslip in January and the ground continued to move meaning repair work had to be delayed.
Dalton Labour councillor Tyler Hawkins, also a member of the council’s Cabinet, said specialist contractors had drawn up a plan and would start work in February. It was hoped the road would re-open by the end of March.
Erosion protection work would be carried out on the lower slope in April.
Clr Moses Crook, deputy leader and Cabinet member for transport and housing, said: “Our teams have continually monitored the situation at Dalton Bank Road following the serious landslip which happened earlier this year.
“Since the initial landslip, the highway has been closed to motor vehicles due to continued ground movement making the road unstable.
“During this time, we have been working with specialist contractors investigating the most appropriate option for long term stability of the repair.
“Following the final design process and procurement, work will start in early 2025 with the highway re-opened subject to a series of traffic management lane closures.
“Our primary goal has always been to re-open the highway as quickly as possible without compromising safety, and I would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding.”
In the early weeks of the closure some drivers removed bollards and barriers to continue using the road, prompting a warning from the council and police.
