Glass manufacturer Specialist Glass Products will feature on the Channel 4 property show Remarkable Renovations after architect and TV presenter George Clarke visited their factory in Milnsbridge.
The episode, which will be aired on Wednesday August 11, will see George learn about the processes glass goes through when it is toughened to create a glass walkway for a 200-year-old barn near Harrogate undergoing transformation.
Andrew Taylor, managing director at Specialist Glass Products, led a personal tour of the factory.
The tour began with Andrew showing George the robotic arm which selects large panes of glass to be broken down, demonstrating how glass is cut and polished, following which it goes through the toughening process by being subjected to intense heat and then cooled quickly to toughen the material.
The tour finished with a demonstration of how glass is laminated and bonded for added safety.
Following significant investment in 2019, in which the firm took delivery of new machinery to boost its manufacturing capacity by 80%, it is now one of just a few glass manufacturers in the country able to bend glass measuring up to 6,000mm by 32,000mm.
Andrew said: “It was a real pleasure hosting the production team. We are very much looking forward to watching the show. Glass is a brilliant material with many capabilities, however, unless you work in the glass industry, you may not be fully aware of all the various processes it goes through to make the glass products we use every day.”
Last year Specialist Glass Products was also filmed by another Channel 4 property show, Grand Designs. The episode, which will likely air in 2022, features bespoke large curved glass window panes manufactured for a property undergoing a renovation in Cheshire.
