This year is 50 since much-loved sitcom Last of the Summer Wine first hit our TV screens and the landmark will be commemorated at Holmfirth Artweek.

Last of the Summer Wine was filmed in Holmfirth for 37 years across 295 episodes and its legendary status will be celebrated with artwork made by a Holmfirth-based mosaicist and a Manchester artist..

Amanda McCrann has lived in Holmfirth for several years and has created mosaics for clients all over the UK including commissions by Manchester City FC and the Rugby League World Cup.

Now she has teamed up with fellow artist Alison Bell to produce a Last of the Summer Wine-themed mosaic.

Alison had been producing a collection of ‘name chains’ designs which feature collections of themed-names all woven together in a crossword-style and thought it would be a great idea for them both to collaborate to create some name-chains mosaics.

The Last of the Summer Wine name-chains mosaic features many of the popular characters from the long-running TV series including Compo, Clegg, Foggy and Nora Batty, along with some familiar local landmarks such as Sid’s Cafe, The White Horse Inn and The Wrinkled Stocking Tea Room.

Amanda has turned Alison’s name-chains design into a stunning 80cm x 80cm Last of the Summer Wine name-chains mosaic which they unveiled outside Holmfirth Civic Hall during the weekend of celebrations for the TV series at the end of May and then transported to various locations in and around Holmfirth.

The mosaic will be on display inside Holmfirth Civic Hall during Holmfirth Artweek which runs from Sunday July 2 to Saturday July 8, and will then be for sale.

Framed prints of the design will also be available to buy.

Holmfirth Artweek will feature more than 400 exhibitors showing over 2,000 artworks. The popular event, which draws visitors from across the country, links together dozens of fringe venues which showcase more artists with thousands more pieces of art and crafts.
