Huddersfield-based Big Red Industries Group has appointed Rob Kelly as a new non-executive board member.

Company founder Mike Lomas has recently become chairman and chief executive officer and is in the process of appointing a new board of directors.

Mr Kelly is dual qualified, being both a solicitor and a chartered accountant and will bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to help Big Red with its business and, in particular, with its legal and accountancy affairs.

Having begun his career as a chartered account with PWC, Mr Kelly went on to hold pivotal roles, working within various industries on a global scale before qualifying as a solicitor in his 40s.

In his previous roles he has delivered exceptional turnover growth and has dealt with several company acquisitions and disposals both in the UK and overseas.

Mr Kelly is currently a corporate partner at Schofield Sweeney, a specialist law firm with offices in Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and London.

He has provided Big Red with legal advice since the company’s formation and has already become a sounding board for Mr Lomas given his previous commercial and financial experience.

Mr Kelly is also a non-executive director of Paxman AB, a company whose shares are listed on NASDAQ First North and which is recognised as the market leader in scalp cooling treatment for hair loss prevention caused by chemotherapy drugs.

In 2016, Mr Kelly became a member of the Audit Committee of the Council of Huddersfield University, a position he still holds.

Mr Lomas said: “It is a pleasure to have Rob joining the Big Red team. Over the last five years Rob has significantly assisted the growth of the group in his capacity at Schofield Sweeney.

“His knowledge and strategic outlook will be of great importance on pursuing the next phase of growth for the Big Red Industries Group.”

Mr Kelly said: “I am delighted to be joining Mike and the team at Big Red. The company’s growth to date has been exponential and my aim is to help make sure that this continues.”
