The NHS is celebrating its 75th anniversary on July 9 2023 and the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity is planning a sponsored walk.

Local people are being invited to join the ‘Big Hospital Walk’, a 10km (six mile) walk between Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

The scenic yet rather hilly route goes from Salterhebble through West Vale, Holywell Green and Lindley.

Entry costs £15 for adults and £8 for children aged five to 16 with under-5s free. The suggested sponsorship is £75 per person and money raised goes to the charity which provides the little extras that improve patient care at the two hospitals.

Charity manager Emma Kovaleski said: “The Big Hospital Walk is a perfect opportunity to bring together your friends, family members, colleagues and communities in celebration and honour of the incredible NHS services provided by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

“The charity walk will not only be a wonderful commemorative occasion but it will help raise funds for our NHS charity so we can continue to provide those all-important extras that enhance patient experience and colleague wellbeing.”

Brendan Brown, chief executive of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, said: “As a Trust, we are delighted to be celebrating 75 years of our amazing NHS by supporting our NHS charity’s Big Hospital Walk. Put your best foot forward and join in!”
