Around 1,000 people will take part in the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Colour run on Saturday May 20.

The event is an easy 3km walk, jog or run around Greenhead Park in Huddersfield while being showered in clouds of coloured powder. By the end of the run, everyone will look like they’ve run through a rainbow!

Great for all the family, this year the Colour Run also features a 5km distance option for those who want to go a little bit further.

The annual event, which has been running since 2017 with a two-year break due to Covid, has helped raise thousands for this local charity which supports children with life-shortening conditions and their families across West Yorkshire.

Vicky Stackhouse, events fundraiser at Forget Me Not, said: “The Colour Run in Greenhead Park is our biggest event of the year and something that the whole community can get involved in.

“Whether you’re young or old, fit or couch potato, like running or prefer to stroll, it doesn’t matter – as long as you want to get as colourful as possible and you want to raise as much money as possible!

“Every penny raised by getting sponsored will go towards supporting local families facing or living with the loss of their child. In 2022 our colour runners together raised a whopping £35,000 – we’d love to do even better this year.

“So, if you want to be part of the most colourful run in Huddersfield, book your place now!”

Tickets for Forget Me Not’s Colour Run are available on the day but are available at a reduced price in advance until May 18 at www.forgetmenotchild.co.uk/colourrun

The ticket price just covers the cost of staging the event so Forget Me Not really encourages people to get a little bit of sponsorship too. If all participants raised just £20 that would be about £20,000!

Greenhead Park will be open as normal on the day and spectators and supporters are welcome to go and watch. There will be food stalls and a coffee pod, a tombola, bouncy castle and a duck hunt. The event runs from 11am to 3pm.

What time should I arrive?

You can register from 11am onwards and the site will open at 11.30am. The run starts from 1.30pm, so you need to make sure you are on-site, registered and ready to go before then.

Getting there and where to park

There is no parking on site, local street parking only. Please use public transport, share vehicles or arrange lifts where possible.

What should I wear?

Be sure to pop your t-shirt on over your clothes and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting too messy (the coloured powder is washable but may take a few washes before it comes out and may stain pale colours).

Most importantly, make sure you have some sensible footwear. The course is mainly grass and walkways, so there could be mud and potentially slippery terrain. It is suitable for adventurous buggies and wheelchairs too.

And don’t worry, any leftover coloured paint powder will wash off the park when it rains!
