The Huddersfield & District Football League’s Annual General Meeting was held on Monday June 27 and here’s a round-up of what was discussed and decided.

Last season on-the-field congratulations go to Heywood Irish Centre for the double in winning Division 1 and the Barlow Cup.

Congratulations also go to Dalton Dynamos and their ‘A’ team for winning Division 2 and Reserve Division 4, whilst Deighton and Wooldale Wanderers won Division 3 and Division 4 respectively.

Congratulations go to Scissett for winning the Groom Cup. In the other reserves competitions Newsome also achieved a double-winning Reserve Division 1 and the Richardson Cup with Cumberworth Reserves and Slaithwaite United Reserves winning Reserve Division 2 and Reserve Division 3 respectively. Congratulations also go to Berry Brow ‘A’ for retaining the Gee Cup.

A number of clubs tendered their resignations at the AGM. These were: AFC Dalton, Scholes, Scholes Reserves and Scholes ‘A’, Diggle Reserves, Flockton, Hade Edge Reserves and Hade Edge ‘A.’

The League welcomed back Almondbury Woolpack Reserves, Cartworth Moor, Diggle Reserves and Hade Edge Development Squad.

Due to a number of clubs completing their fixtures early due to the mild winter weather following a discussion it was proposed and agreed that the constitution of the League for 2022-2023 season be as follows:

  • Division One – 12 Teams
  • Division Two – 14 Teams
  • Division Three – 14 Teams
  • Reserve Division One – 12 Teams
  • Reserve Division Two – 14 Teams
  • Reserve Division Three – 14 Teams

There would be promotion for the top two teams in all divisions and the bottom two teams in all divisions would be relegated. The League cups would be played for by teams as follows:

  • Barlow Cup – Divisions One & Two
  • Groom Cup – Division Three
  • Richardson Cup – Reserve Divisions One & Two
  • Gee Cup – Reserve Division Three

It was agreed that fixtures would commence with two rounds of midweek games in the week commencing August 22 and August 29 kick off 6.15 pm with the first Saturday fixtures on September 3 kick off 2.15pm.

There would be no fixtures arranged for two weeks at Christmas and New Year.
