Daniel East scored in either half as Emley AFC went down to an opening day defeat at North Ferriby.

The home side put early pressure on the Emley back four and a mistimed tackle by James Knowles saw the visitors concede a penalty. East stepped up to fire past a helpless Sam Kelly.

In the dying seconds of the first half, Emley almost equalised when Joe Jagger latched onto a through ball and slotted home only for the ‘goal’ to be ruled out for handball.

The second half saw Emley on the back foot with North Ferriby turning up the pressure. The Pewits conceded a free-kick in a dangerous area and though Kelly pulled off an acrobatic save the rebound fell for East to make it 2-0 after 65 minutes.

Emley’s next game is away to Glossop North End in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round on Saturday August 6 (3.00).
