A new 24-hour gym is set to open on the site of the former DW Fitness at Moldgreen, creating 15 new jobs.

Low-cost operator truGym, which has 11 gyms around the UK, plans to open on June 9.

The DW Fitness gym in Wakefield Road was one of 45 bought out of administration by Everlast Fitness Clubs in August last year.

It was renamed Huddersfield Fitness Club but only lasted until October 30 when the new owners failed to negotiate a reduced rent with the landlord.

TruGym is now offering memberships at Huddersfield for just £20 a month, instead of the usual £32 a month, and membership payments won’t begin until the gym has officially opened.

A spokesman said the new gym, which has a swimming pool, would be open 24 hours a day when restrictions allow.

Director Parm Singh said: “truGym is all about offering affordable fitness to the community.

“We offer a similar pricing model to many of the budget gyms but the facilities are of a higher specification and include swimming pool access too.

“The pool offering in the town is minimal, especially with the closure of Total Fitness recently.”
