Marsden FC go to Colton Athletic today (Saturday) aiming to continue their 100% start to the season. Four wins from four matches sees the Cuckoos five points clear at the top of the Yorkshire Amateur League Championship.

Here’s an update from Marsden boss Luke Haigh on the season so far.

“Following our title winning season in Division 2 last season we have made the jump up by two divisions and so far we have started how we left off winning the first four games.

“We expect sterner tests to come as the season progresses but we have had a great start to the season.

“During pre-season we lost one or two players to semi-professional clubs but brought in five more to the first team as well as another eight for the reserve team.

“The lads I’ve brought in have settled in well and we arguably have a stronger squad than we had last year now.

“We have a really nice blend of experience and youth this year and I’m hoping for another successful season. Our minimum aim this year is another promotion to get Marsden back at step 7 in the Supreme division.

“Our reserves joined us in the Yorkshire Amateur League this season starting out in a tough Division 2.

“We have had an influx of new signings come through the door and the reserve team management Coggsy and Charlie are still experimenting trying to find their strongest team.

“There are a few players in the reserves who are knocking on the door of the first team however whilst we are still winning games it’s very hard for me to get them in to have a good look at them.

“They have had a mixed start to their season so far but I believe once they have a settled side the results will come for sure.

“We are very much one club who train together go out together and have one big WhatsApp group.

“I try my very best to not segregate anyone at the club and so far this has proved successful.

“We have a new under-17 team also playing from Fall Lane this season and I’m sure a few of them aren’t far away from stepping up into open age football.

“Last season we had over 100 people watching our home games and this season we are hoping to break that record at some point.”
