The current Racketball League season took a break over the festive period however there were two rounds of fixtures in December and it was a mixed bag for the Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club.
On December 13 Huddersfield played Phoenix in what was a difficult day on the court.
Mark Francis played in game one for HLTSC and he faced Jim Lord. Francis hadn’t beaten Lord in 40 years of trying at squash and racketball but he overcame that and beat his rival for the first time. Francis won three out of the five games played.
Playing in game two was HLTSC’s Dan Lawton who lost all three games to Phoenix’s James Bedford. In fixture three HLTSC player James Smith played strongly but lost 3-2.
The overall match score was 9-5 to Phoenix but player of the night was definitely Mark Francis.
On December 20 HLTSC played Mirfield Old Bank in what was a dominant display by the Huddersfield team.
Mark Francis played again in game one and won his match 3-0 against Casey Hall. Francis was far too strong for Hall winning 11-3, 11-3, 11-6.
Dan Lawton played again in game two and also won his match, beating Neil Bowyer 3-1. James Ramsden represented Huddersfield in game three and won 3-0 against Matt Hart 11-6, 12-10 and 11-7.
Overall HLTSC won 12-1.
Huddersfield are currently in third position in the league table, 10 points behind league leaders Phoenix.
