It’s official … Lindley Junior School choir is the best choir in the world.
The Huddersfield school choir has been renowned for the quality of its singing under the leadership of the school’s music leader and choir director Alison North MBE for more than a decade.
It has competed at the world-famous Eisteddford International competition at Llangollen in Wales every year since 2011 except during the pandemic and has won the Junior Children’s Choir of the Year twice before.
The choir lifted the title again this July but also achieved 90 marks out of 100 making it the highest scoring choir in the festival which had attracted children’s choirs from the USA, Canada, Sweden, Jersey, England and Wales.
This meant Lindley also won the Children’s Choir of the World title.
Lindley Junior School Choir has 50 members and 41 of them took part on the day with just about every one having family and friends supporting them who had travelled over from Huddersfield.
Alison said: “Choir of the World is our greatest achievement … it doesn’t get better than that. The performance was absolutely spot on and I was so proud of each and every one of them.
“I can’t thank enough the wonderful parents, carers and grandparents who made the trip to Llangollen to support the choir. It was an absolutely fantastic day.”
The choir sang two songs at the event – Five Eyes was one and the other was choir favourite Can You Hear Me.
Half the choir is now moving on to high schools so Alison will start the rebuilding process in September with the aim of defending the world title in summer 2024.
“We’ll definitely be back again next year,” she said.
Lindley Junior School Choir is the favourite choir of the Mayor of Kirklees Clr Cahal Burke and the children performed at the mayor-making ceremony at Huddersfield Town Hall. Read more about that HERE.
