Jamal Hussain turned in a headline-grabbing performance with six goals in Deighton’s 8-0 defeat of Brighouse Athletic as the Huddersfield & District Football League kicked off again.

But Hussain wasn’t the only one among the goals as Jamal Simpson (Deighton Reserves A) and Jack Woods (Kirkburton) both bagged five apiece. There were hattricks galore too.

The league resumed on April 3 with League Cup competitions for all teams in a Champions League format with four groups for each League Cup.

In the Barlow Cup for division 1 and 2 teams, Skelmanthorpe are top of group A having won both of their games. Fothergill & Whittles and Newsome are joint top of group B winning both of their games. Heywood Irish Centre top group C winning both of their games and so have Slaithwaite United who are top of group D.

Deighton lead group D in the Groom Cup winning both of their games whilst Laund Hill have won both of their games to top group C. Kirkburton and Grange Moor Saints are joint top of group B with 4 points each and Holmfirth Town lead group A also with 4 points.

In the Richardson Cup, Scholes Reserves lead group A winning both of their games as does Linthwaite Reserves leading group C and Deighton Reserves who are top of group D. Group B has no clear leader yet.

Deighton A and Netherton A are joint top of group A in the Gee Cup having won both of their games whilst group B has no clear leader yet. Berry Brow A have won both of their games to top group C as has Linthwaite A to top group D.

In the Groom Cup the performance of the day went to Jamal Hussain from Deighton who hit Brighouse Athletic for six in their 8-0 win. Deighton’s other goals came from Jarren Lewis and Hayden Webster.

There were goals galore at Brook Motors who despite scoring 4 were beaten by Laund Hill 7-4, with James Knowles scoring (three) for Laund Hill.

Jamal Simpson scored for five for Deighton Reserves A in their 9-0 win over Brook Motors in the Richardson Cup while Saiyfullah Sulymans came on as a substitute for Newsome and scored a hattrick in their 10-0 win over Shelley Development.

Daniel Lorryman scored a hattrick for Netherton Reserves in their 6-2 win over Britannia Sports A and Carlton Balmer also scored a hattrick for Heywood Irish Centre Reserves in their 6-0 away at Meltham Athletic.

In the Gee Cup Kemar Kilbourn scored a hattrick for Deighton A in their 8-0 win over Scissett Development whilst Alex Lloyd also scored a hattrick for Berry Brow A in their 7-0 win over Wooldale Wanderers Reserves.

In the same competition substitute Felix Beaumont came off the bench to hit a second half hattrick for Cartworth Moor in their 7-0 win over Brook Motors Development. Jack Woods hit five for Kirkburton in their 6-3 win over Fothergill & Whittles A.
