The wintry weather almost wiped out the cup and league fixtures for the Huddersfield & District Football League but there were a couple of clubs that managed to get their games on.

Dalton Dynamos extended their lead at the top of Division 2 to eleven points by beating Lepton Highlanders 6-3. The goal scorers for the Dynamos were John-Paul Flynn, Craig Thompson, Simon Lee, Jordan McMinn (two) and Ryan Walton. Danny Conway, Tomas Mitchell and Tom Wadsworth were on the mark for the Highlanders.

Dalton Dynamos have played more than half of their fixtures this season, so promotion seems a likely prospect.

In Division 3 bottom club, AFC Dalton recorded their first win of the season at the twelfth attempt by beating Cartworth Moor 9-0. Dalton’s goals came from 17-year-old Dane O’Neill who scored four, Colin Brown (two), Darren Boothroyd, Kieron Ramsden and Kyle McManus.

The only other game to escape the weather was the Huddersfield FA Challenge Cup tie between Holmbridge and Golcar United Reserves from the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division. The game had been switched to Golcar’s home at Longfield Park and played under floodlights on Thursday evening.

This was Holmbridge’s second game in a row under floodlights having played Wombwell Town the previous week in the Sheffield and Hallam FA Challenge Cup.

Both sides were even after 90 minutes with the score line at 0-0. Holmbridge players held their nerves in the penalty shoot-out winning 4-3 to go through to the next round.
