Huddersfield Town Women will open their 2023-24 FA Women’s National League Northern Premier campaign at home to AFC Fylde on Sunday August 20.

Last season Town Women finished sixth in the league out of 12 teams, picking up seven wins and five draws during the 22-game campaign.

The conclusion of the season saw the relegation of Loughborough Lightning and Boldmere St Michaels, whereas the league winners, Nottingham Forest, narrowly missed out on promotion to the FA Women’s Championship after losing the FAWNL Play-Off to Southern Premier Division winners Watford.

The 2023-24 FAWNL season will see two new teams facing Huddersfield Town Women following their promotion from the tier below.

Newcastle United Women were crowned champions of FAWNL Division One North meanwhile Stourbridge secured promotion as champions from FAWNL Division One Midlands.

Another new name on the fixture list is Halifax FC Women, who were formerly Brighouse Town prior to their relocation and rebranding.

Terriers’ boss Glen Preston is preparing for another tough season ahead and said: “There’s no getting away from the fact there will be a league within a league in the FAWNL this year.

“The resources some clubs will have by comparison will make an incredible challenge but equally a fascinating dynamic. The smaller teams will have plenty of giants to try and slay.

“Pre-season so far has been fun. I’ve enjoyed our sessions to date, which have been very intense. It’s a really good group we’ve got which seems to embody the values and principles we hold as a club.

“Although the squad is shaping up nicely, if we can bring in one or two more players of good quality then we will be in a good place to achieve our season’s objectives. We are currently in the middle of a rebuild.”
