After a highly-successful 2023-24 season Huddersfield RUFC Colts are gearing up for the new campaign.
Last year the team won their league championship, finished runners up in the cup and five of their number gained selection for the Yorkshire Under 17 team.
Lumley Baxter, an asset management firm, has sponsored the Colts kit and senior partners Michael Lumley and Richard Baxter both wore the claret and gold quarters when they captained the Huddersfield First XV in the 1990s.
The pair played alongside Colts’ head coach Steve Lynch whose son Jake plays in the team.
Last Sunday, the Colts entertained Stockport in a warm-up game. The Cheshire club boasts one of the strongest youth teams in the north and Lynch chose to blood some of last year’s under-16s in the match.
Although Huddersfield lost after three 20-minute sessions the coach was very satisfied with the way in which his youngsters acquitted themselves. The seniors had their final pre-season run out at Moortown last Saturday.
Unsurprisingly they registered a comfortable win against the Regional 2 North East outfit. After the game Field head coach Danny Brough said: “I am really pleased with the performance.
“At 36-0 up at half-time we experimented and made some changes and conceded 24 points but the lads put in a massive effort right up to the final whistle.”
