Golcar United attracted a club record crowd of 1,320 for their dramatic League Cup semi-final victory over Emley AFC – and the fans of both clubs made for an incredible atmosphere.

The game ended goalless after 120 minutes and it took penalties to decide the winner with Golcar eventually going through 13-12 on spotkicks.

Golcar captain Dan Stocker blasted the first penalty against the bar but that was the only one that Golcar missed – and second time around Stocker smashed home his penalty to set it up for Kayle Price to put the home side through.

Golcar now face Winterton Rangers in the final at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster on Tuesday May 2.

Stocker was still buzzing the morning after the night before. He thanked the fans for their backing and said: “The support we had was unbelievable. That’s why I play football for moments like that.”

Stocker was gutted to have missed the first penalty and was relieved to make amends when his chance came around again.

“I said to (managers) Ash and Gav I would like to take the first kick as I have in previous games for Golcar. I decided to hit it down the middle, it rattled the bar and I felt like I hit it too well.

“For my second kick I knew I had to tuck it away after missing the first and thankfully beat their keeper.

“I was so nervous for the second kick I can’t explain it. I knew I had to score. Thankfully I sent the keeper the wrong way. Kayle Price then finished the job.

“When it goes to penalties it’s a lottery but luckily we kept our nerve to get to the final.”

Stocker told of his pride in the squad and added: “It’s an honour to captain Golcar and these players. The togetherness we have is something else. Hopefully we can bring some more silverware back to the village.”
