It will be a celebration of all that’s great about the Colne Valley … and everyone’s invited.
The first Colne Valley Stars awards presentation will be held this summer to highlight the wonderful work voluntary organisations and charities are doing throughout the Colne Valley.
People can nominate their favourite groups and all those invited to the event will receive a Colne Valley Stars Award on stage.
The event will be held on Sunday, June 25, at Marsden Mechanics and be hosted by Barney Stevenson who used to be Marsden Jazz Festival’s artistic director.
Marsden Mechanics development manager Jonny Kelly (below) said: “The awards will honour the community organisations and charities which do amazing things in the Colne Valley.
“It’s all about nominating the organisations rather than the individuals who run them and is a chance for us as a community to thank them for all their hard work, give them the chance to talk about what they do and how people can help them.
“It will also be an opportunity for them all to get together, meet one another and perhaps even support each other in the future.”
The event starts at 3pm and people from each organisation will go on stage to receive their award and say a few words about what their organisation does.
Jonny said: “The day will turn the spotlight onto what’s out there in the Colne Valley to support and help local people and enhance their lives. There are some fantastic organisations in this area and we need to shout about them.”
Once the awards are finished there will be music from Colne Valley ukulele band the Mucky Pups.
The event has been organised by Marsden Mechanics and Kirklees Anchor scheme which helps places across Huddersfield like the Mechanics to support other groups and organisations.
The groups already nominated are Colne Valley Help, Marsden Resilience Fund and The Village Green, Katie’s Kitchen, Cuckoo’s Nest, Pride in Linthwaite, Slaithwaite New Parent and Toddler Group, Shabang!, Marsden Ukrainian Support, Marsden Women’s Institute, Ella Dawson Foundation, Marsden Write Out Loud and St Barts Thursday Café.
All nominations must be received by May 31. Email them to Jonny@marsdenmechanics.co.uk explaining why you think the organisation should be nominated.
Remember to nominate an organisation, not an individual.
