After an absence of 12 months due to the pandemic Lindley Bowling Club will once again stage its £2,000 bowling competition. The main sponsor will be Gardinia Windows.

There will be 64 bowlers from Yorkshire, Lancashire and Cheshire vying for a top prize of £600 and the defending champion, Graeme Wilson, who won it in 2018 and 2019, will be in action on the opening evening of July 2.

Also, this year Callum Wraight, one of the country’s top bowlers, is taking part for the first time.

There will be four rounds on consecutive Friday evenings, starting at 6.30pm, where 16 bowlers bowl down to two who will qualify for final eight on July 30.

Admission is free and the bar will be open and refreshments will be available.

The club, which is situated down Daisy Lea Lane, is known as ‘the hidden gem’ because of its secluded and picturesque setting.

It was founded in 1894 and for the next 100 years the green was mainly used for social bowling. It was also a male-only club.

In 1995 it was decided to enter a six-man team in the Brighouse Veterans League and the following year they entered a team in the Huddersfield Veterans League.

It was in 2012 that the club opened its doors to lady members and the club now boasts 21 teams in various leagues and this year has a team in the Huddersfield Junior League.
