Golcar United battled hard after the first half dismissal of Kiero Lawrence only to go down to a penalty five minutes from time.

The Weavers lost 1-0 at home to Handsworth on Tuesday night after playing with 10 men for over an hour after defender Lawrence was red carded.

United put Handsworth to the sword in the second half but just couldn’t make a breakthrough. Lawrence was sent off in the first half as he dragged Handsworth attacker Jimmy Eyles down just before the penalty area. Being the last man the referee had no option but to show Lawrence a red card.

Golcar showed spirit and fight but were denied a point when they conceded a penalty and Jonathan Williams scored from the spot.

Boss Ash Connor said: “It was disappointing to not get anything from the game especially since we were the better team in my opinion. They are a good side but I think even with 10 men we showed enough to get a result. We had lots of chances in the second half and at this level if you don’t put them away you get done.

“The penalty was an accident really and it was disappointing but we have to get over this defeat quickly and move on to Saturday.”

Golcar go to Penistone Church on Saturday August 13 (3.00)
