Heywood Irish Centre completed a Huddersfield District League and Barlow Cup double beating Newsome 3-2.
Nathan Eastwood opened the scoring for Heywood on 10 minutes. He cut in from the left and hit a low left foot shot just inside the post.
Kieron Mayall made it 2-0 with a goal almost the same as the opener, as he also cut in from the same side to fire home. Kyle Walton made it 2-1 on 30 minutes with a solo run and powerfully hit shot.
Heywood’s led 2-1 at half-time and increased their lead with 15 minutes to go with an own goal following a scramble from a corner kick. Shortly afterwards Newsome’s keeper was dismissed for a foul and the substitute keeper came on and saved the penalty to keep Newsome in the game.
Josimar Bradshaw beat Heywood’s keeper to a cross into the box on 79 minutes to make it 3-2 to set up a nail-biting finish but Heywood held on to lift the Barlow Cup.
The league’s life president Frank Beaumont and his wife Anne presented the trophies and the man-of-the-match award. The Frank Beaumont Trophy was presented to Finlay Madigan, the Heywood keeper.
