Huddersfield Lawn Tennis and Squash Club continued their good form as they bid to catch Phoenix at the top of the Kirklees and Calderdale Racketball League table. It was second v third as HLTSC took on Queens from Halifax.

and it was Huddersfield who came out on top, winning 11-4 overall.

Queens fought hard and the scoreline didn’t do them justice but HLTSC were just too strong in the end.

In the first game HLTSC’s Dave Sykes cruised to a 3-0 victory, showing great skill and determination.

Next up Huddersfield’s Dan Lawton struggled to take Dave Western. He eventually won the game 3-1 but was frustrated when he made loose mistakes. He finally pulled into full gear and took the game despite Western’s defiant defence.

In the final game Martin Calvert for Huddersfield took on Ben Emery from Queens. This match was an absolute gem, hard paced and brutal pinpoint accuracy.

Both players gave everything they had to win. They treated the spectators to a masterclass in control and strategy with ferocious drives, delicate drops and perfectly weighted lobs. Calvert finally wrapped the game up to win 3-2.

HLTSC currently sit third in the table on 94 points. That’s two places and 10 points behind top club Phoenix.
