Golcar United joint boss Ash Connor is delighted with the goalscoring form of makeshift striker Dan Naidole – and has revealed top scorer Ash Flynn is nearing a return from injury.
Flynn has been sidelined for the past two weeks, picking up a hamstring injury. However, Connor is confident the club’s 19-goal top scorer will be back in action very soon.
Connor said: “Flynny should be back next week. We’ll check on him at training but it’s great to have him back so soon. Any club would be lucky to have him; he’s a brilliant player.”
Despite Flynn’s absence the goals have kept flowing for United as Naidole has scored seven goals in the club’s last three games taking him to 15 for the season.
Connor said: “Dan is a great pro and whilst Ash has been out Dan has scored the goals we need. We put him up front and he’s done the business. He’s not only scored the goals he creates them too which is great.”
Golcar next face St Helens in the North West Counties Division One North. Currently they are bottom of the table on just three points. Despite their lowly position Connor doesn’t want his players seeing this as an easy game.
St Helens are a proud and very historic club,” he said. “They have been in this league for a long time and despite where they are they deserve our respect. They have recently signed some new players so this won’t be an easy game.
“We can’t go into any game this season thinking it will be an easy test because no game is easy. St Helens will be a physical side and we’ll need to be on our A game to beat them.”
United won their last game 4-0 when they beat South Liverpool at the Skye Direct Stadium last Tuesday.
Connor was pleased with the win which kept them second in the table.
He said: “To beat South Liverpool the way we did was impressive. They were a difficult opponent and I feel the way in which we dominated the game made it our best performance of the season.
“Hopefully we can take that performance into Saturday against St Helens.”
The game is at the Skye Direct Stadium (3.00).
