Thongsbridge Cricket Club has been chosen to stage this season’s T20 kit launch for Yorkshire County Cricket Club and the Northern Diamonds women’s cricket team.
Thongsbridge plays in the Huddersfield Cricket League’s Premiership and its Miry Lane ground will host the prestige event from 5pm onwards this coming Friday, April 28.
It’s the first time the county club have ventured to Huddersfield for such a launch and it’s a red letter day for both the historic Thongsbridge club and the Huddersfield League as they bid to become an ECB Premier organisation.
“This is a real first for all sorts of reasons and part of Yorkshire’s philosophy to engage with the community,” said Thongsbridge chair Gerald Kemp.
The county club has engaged with grassroots clubs and a special video will be shown at the launch.
Mr Kemp added: “With the women’s and girls’ game growing more quickly than ever, and the county embarking on a new era, we are delighted to be hosting the launch.
“It’s reward for an enormous amount of work that’s been put in at Thongsbridge down the years by an awful lot of people. It’s nice to have that recognised – and it’s also a timely landmark event for the Huddersfield League as well.”
Huddersfield League chairman Trevor Atkinson said: “This is a great honour for both Thongsbridge and our league and it’s going to be a marvellous event for cricket in Yorkshire.
“It’s a big day for the county club, which we hope will be massively successful, and it shines a light on Huddersfield League cricket at a time when the YCB are giving us a lot of help to achieve Premier League status.”
Thongsbridge will have their full bar facilities open and food will be available.
Yorkshire are keeping details about the new kit firmly under wraps until Friday’s launch.
