Golcar United boss Ash Connor says all eyes are now on trying to finish third in the North West Counties Division One North but the team must get back to form after two morale-sapping defeats.
The Weavers have had a frustrating time of late with games called off followed by back-to-back defeats. The losses came against Ilkley Town and Nelson. Golcar will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they take on Campion at the Skye Direct Stadium on Friday night.
On the recent postponements and defeats Connor said: “It’s been very frustrating with games being called off and I don’t think the break did us any good.
“We had drawn two good games against Bacup Borough and Pilkington who are both chasing the play-offs. We had a bit of momentum and then the games being called off stopped the momentum we had. Since we’ve come back we haven’t been good enough.
“To go to Ilkley and lose 6-2 was well below par and then the 2-0 defeat to Nelson was very disappointing. No one is more frustrated than me, Gav (Connor) and Joe (Skarz).”
Connor is now trying to put the last few weeks out of his head and insists the team must get back to winning ways. He says the team and everyone at the club will look to stay positive.

He said on going forward: “We just need to move on now and look forward and try to be as positive as we can. It’ll be really hard to catch Bury AFC now so I think it’s a two horse race between them and second-placed Holker Old Boys.
“We just need to concentrate on getting that third spot and securing a home tie in the play-offs. I think we need seven more points from our remaining games to secure a play-off place.”
That challenge to grab those points starts against Campion. It is the start of Groundhop UK weekend and Connor is hoping for a bumper crowd to help lift the players.

He said: “Having a lot of fans there does help the lads. I know we are all looking forward to seeing a big crowd on the night.
“We have played Campion a number of times over the last few seasons as they have come from the same leagues we have. We know the club well and had a tough test against them earlier this season. Hopefully though we can get a win on Friday and get back to winning ways.”
