Brownies and Guides learned how to light fires safely on a special visit to Slaithwaite Fire Station.
The 50 girls, aged between seven and 14, met face-to-face for the first time since lockdown to learn a skill more important than ever after recent fires which devastated Marsden Moor.
Officers from West Yorkshire Fire Service were supported by their colleagues at West Yorkshire Police, who let the girls explore the rescue vehicles and ask questions about working to serve the community.
Brownie leader Julie Wright, who also works for West Yorkshire Fire Service, said: “It’s great being part of the local community with units coming together and being supported by both the fire and police services.

“It is brilliant meeting face-to-face at a fun outdoor event which helps provide the girls with skills for their future. It was a memorable experience, especially when Look North turned up and they appeared on the BBC!”
The girls were supported by their leaders alongside members from All4Hudds Trefoil Guild, an organisation for adults with links to Girlguiding. Events like this help girls understand the wider local community they belong to and also the global guiding community.
