The next Huddersfield Junior Bowling League tournament takes place on Saturday September 18 at Almondbury Liberal Club in memory of Michael Stewart Dyson who died on Christmas Day 2020.

The competition is called the ‘Micky D’ Memorial Bowls Tournament.

Michael, 33, was a huge part of the Almondbury Liberal Club and was a keen Huddersfield Giants fan. The tournament aims to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease. Starting at 10.30am the event is limited to 64 players and costs £3 to enter.

Last weekend another tournament took place where 22 boys and girls took part in this year’s Hemplow Bowling Club Under 14s mixed singles competition. Jude Hatfield Goodall came out on top to win the trophy.

The well attended tournament played at Hemplow Bowling Club on September 5 is sponsored by Margaret Kewley.

This year’s final was a repeat of the 2019 fixture with Jude representing Spen Victoria BC taking on Almondbury Liberal Club player Aidan Hick.

Jude took an early lead to go 14-6 up but Aidan came back to within three points to make the score 11-14 which made it a tight contest. Jude, however, was playing very well and he made a five point break which put the score at 19-11.

Aidan could only manage one more point which meant Jude won 21-13 in the end. He gleefully lifted the Enhancement Shield for a second time.

The Huddersfield Junior Bowling League season is now coming to an end with Spen Victoria picking up the Tommy Wilson Memorial Cup.

It has been an exciting league this year, however the Spen Victoria team have really stood out as the team to beat in their debut campaign.
