Kirklees Council is launching a new initiative to tackle health inequalities across the district.

Council staff will be using the Wellness on Wheels van to offer health and wellbeing support in communities where residents are more likely to suffer from long-term health conditions.

Run by the Kirklees Wellness Service, residents can access support for a range of health issues such as stopping smoking, achieving a healthy weight and becoming more physically active.

Clr Musarrat Khan, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said: “I am delighted to see the launch of this new initiative. As a council we are committed to tackling health inequalities and the Wellness on Wheels van will help our residents to achieve better health outcomes for themselves and their children.

“I look forward to seeing the van out and about and would urge people to stop for a chat if they have any concerns about their health.”
