A café with strong links to the UK’s armed forces is staging a weekend of fundraising events … including a comedy night.

Tommy’s Lounge on Station Street next to St George’s Square is a place for veterans to meet up and talk but members of the public are also more than welcome too.

The café is staging a Halloween movie night this Friday (Oct 27) starting at 6pm featuring a spooky family film … but it will be a surprise on the night as to what’s showing. Tickets are just £3 on the door.

On Saturday (Oct 28) from 6pm to 9pm there will be a comedy night hosted by Welsh stand-up comedian Tom Evans and featuring actor and comedian Ethan Madds from Liverpool and Cumbrian funnyman Percy Savage.

People are urged to come in Halloween fancy dress and there will be a prize for the best one. The event will feature Halloween-themed snacks and party food along with coffees and even pumpkin-spiced lattes.

Tickets cost just £15 and to book go to https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/halloween-comedy-night-tickets-739968745437

Tommy’s Lounge was set up by Jennie Thorn, who said: “It’s important we keep fundraising to ensure the café is here for the people who need it most, veterans who need a place where they can come and talk with others who have been through similar experiences.

“Everyone is welcome. The café is full of military memorabilia and is a fascinating place for anyone who hasn’t been before. The weekend events will be a wonderful way for people to come and see it for the first time.”

Tommy’s Lounge is open from 7am to 2pm Tuesday to Friday and from 10am to 3pm on Saturdays so is an ideal spot for early morning commuters to pop in for a drink or cooked breakfast. Their speciality is German Bratwurst and Currywurst as many of the veterans served in Germany.
