Harry Nixon beat a field of nearly 200 at Woodsome Hall Golf Club to claim the prestigious Captain’s Weekend trophy – at the age of just 19.
Harry was junior captain last year and won the junior prize during Captain’s Weekend in 2020.
A member at the Fenay Bridge-based club for six years, Harry is doing a degree apprenticeship in Civil & Structural engineering at Haigh Huddleston Associates and attends Salford University once a week.
Harry said: “When I attended the prizegiving presentation for the junior prize a couple of years ago I could see how big a deal it was to win such a prestigious competition at the club.
“Ever since it has always been a goal of mine to win the main competition. I could have never imagined winning it at such a young age.
“I was extremely honoured to pick up the trophy. It is a memory I will treasure forever.”
Woodsome Hall captain Rob Kelly thought it was great to see one of the younger members winning the prize and said: “As a club we are very proud of the talent that our junior section produces. Competition was strong with eight people carding par or better.”
He added: “Congratulations to Harry not only for his golfing performance but also for the great speech he made in the Courtyard after the presentation. I suspect we have a future scratch team member on our hands!”
