An innovative Colne Valley day centre for adults with learning difficulties and physical disabilities is staging its summer fundraising fair this Saturday (August 10) with a great line-up of stalls and entertainment.

The event at Waves in Slaithwaite will feature a book signing by Huddersfield entrepreneur and philanthropist Prof Graham Leslie CBE who has just released his autobiography called Ahead Of The Curve with all proceeds going to the charity Making Waves which supports the Waves centre.

The book was only released on July 26 and has already raised more than £5,000 for the charity. Graham founded highly successful pharmaceuticals company Galpharm and became the instigator and driving force behind building Huddersfield’s stadium 30 years ago, the first all-seater football and rugby stadium in the UK.

He will be signing copies of the book from 10.15am to 11.15am on Saturday and the book costs £10.99. Please bring cash if possible.

The summer fayre starts at 10am, finishes at 3pm and will feature around 40 stalls ranging from jewellery to health and wellbeing.

A DJ will play 60s music throughout the day with bacon butties and other food served from 11am and the Waves Showtime Choir performing between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

The money raised will be split between the day centre and the Making Waves charity. For more click HERE.

The fair will be at the Waves centre which is next to the Handmade Bakery on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal towpath.

Waves is one of the most innovative day centres in the UK. It helps people aged 18 and over with learning and/or physical difficulties lead full lives with activities including performing arts, baking, making music, arts and crafts, virtual reality games, a climbing wall, swimming, walks, horticulture in the Waves garden, caring for animals and sharing what they do on social media.

The members also get the chance to go on exciting holidays to places such as Center Parcs and trips to the Isle of Barra in Scotland. It also provides respite care and overnight breaks when members’ families face a crisis.
