A Huddersfield family is bringing a taste of the Caribbean to Mirfield.
The Howe family will be serving up a treat on Sunday July 9 when they launch Sugarcane Grill & Bar with a grand opening day party – in the car park.
Everyone is invited to sample Caribbean favourites including jerk chicken, curried mutton, seafood specials and burgers.
Two popular local DJs – Crazy Scott and Little Sample Sound – will provide the music and the vibes and the opening ceremony will be performed by Huddersfield chef Barrington Douglas (below), a friend of the family. The event will run from 2pm to 8pm.
Sugarcane Grill & Bar is opening in the former Salvia Italian restaurant on the A644 Huddersfield Road in Mirfield.
The restaurant is a venture run by auntie and niece Rebecca and Diamond Howe, who are the directors, with experienced chef Richard Howe – known to everyone as Ice – running the kitchen.
Richard has a host of experience as a chef at the Rose & Crown in Almondbury, Sample Cuisine in Birkby and Sugarcane Grill in Batley among other venues.
The 40-seater restaurant, which has undergone a complete revamp, will be open to the public for bookings from Tuesday July 11. It will be open Tuesday to Saturday 4pm-10pm and Sundays 2pm-8pm.
Richard: “We’re a Caribbean restaurant specialising in seafood and we’re bringing something different to the dining scene in Mirfield. It’s on a main road with a big car park and it’s the perfect location.
“We hope everyone will come along to our grand opening, meet Barrington and enjoy some great food.”
