Takeaway delivery drivers parked up in taxi bays in Huddersfield town centre have been issued with fixed penalty tickets.
Officers from Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team and officials from Kirklees Council’s parking and licensing departments carried out a joint operation last Wednesday.
The licensing service and West Yorkshire Police had both received complaints from taxi drivers that takeaway delivery drivers often blocked taxi ranks.
A police spokesman said: “A number of drivers stationary in taxi bays were spoken to and seven fixed penalty tickets were issued for this offence.
“Several taxi drivers approached us and thanked us for looking into this matter and taking positive action.
“This operation will be repeated over the next few months so the message gets out that it is not acceptable to park in Kirklees taxi bays.”
