Huddersfield Town Women went into the festive break on a high with new boss Glen Preston having won all four matches since his return to the club.
The Terriers beat Loughborough Lightning 3-1 on Sunday in the FAWNL Cup. Just a week earlier the Terriers had beaten the same opposition by the same scoreline in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
Town took the lead in the first half through Ria Montgomery before Laura Elford doubled the lead after the break.
Kate Mallin settled the game when she slotted home under the keeper to make it 3-0. Lightning pulled a goal back but couldn’t strike twice as Bethan Davies kept the home side at bay with some crucial saves.
Preston was delighted with the result though would have liked another goal or two given the amount of chances his side created.
It was Town’s last game of 2021 and Preston said: “It’s great to have won all four games since I’ve been back – and in convincing fashion too.
“I just hope it gives everyone a lift going into the festive season because the club deserves it.”
The Terriers are next back in action away at Hull City Ladies on Sunday January 9 (2.00).
