Two goals from Sam Pashley sent unbeaten Emley AFC joint top of the NPL Division 1 East ahead of Bank Holiday Monday’s home derby against Brighouse Town.
The Pewits are level on points with Cleethorpes with three wins and a draw from their opening four matches.
On Saturday, Emley returned from the long trip to Consett in County Durham with all three points from a comprehensive 4-0 victory. Amir Berchil and Alhassane Keita scored the other goals.
Emley went ahead just past the half-hour mark when Berchil headed home from a corner for his fourth goal of the season.
The Pewits had to be patient and it was the introduction of subs Mo Qasim and Keita which helped Emley finish off the home side.
With 10 minutes left Pashley scored twice in two minutes – a header and a close range finish – before Keita added the gloss in stoppage time when he broke away, drew the keeper and slotted home.
Emley boss Richard Tracey expects a stern test from a Brighouse side who have made a solid start under new manager Grant Black with just one defeat in the first five games.
Tracey told the club’s website: “Grant Black’s teams are always well-organised and competitive. He gets the best out of his players, so it’ll be a battle for sure.
“But we’re at home and we need to be on the front foot, ask more questions of them, and make sure we come away with the points.”
Emley v Brighouse Town is on Monday August 26 at the Fantastic Media Welfare Ground with a 3.00 kick-off. Gates open at 1.30pm. Tickets are £8 with £5 for concessions, ages 5-11 £1 and under 5s free.
