Golcar United had a post-Christmas party on the pitch when they played Albion Sports on Tuesday afternoon winning 6-3 to move them up the table.

There were six different scorers on the day for the Weavers and the result pulls them further away from the drop zone in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division. They are now up to 14th after 22 games and are sat on 25 points.

The resurgent Weavers have now won four successive matches including three in the league.

Albion’s ground is called The Citadel and Golcar quickly breached the fortress with Adam Field and Kayle Price putting them 2-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes. Slater Barnes made it 3-0 five minutes before half-time.

After the break Golcar continued the onslaught with Buddy Cox slotting the ball away in the 54th minute to make it 4-0.

The home side grabbed a goal back in the 65th minute but Nathan Woodward struck back instantly before Dan Naidole made it 6-1 in the 74th minute.

Adam Williams pulled another back in the 75th minute and then Zak Khan converted a 90th minute penalty to make it 6-3.

Despite being disappointed with the first half of the campaign, Naidole believes the Weavers can have a successful second half of the season.

“We’ve learned a lot of lessons in the first half of the season and hopefully we can build some momentum,” he said. “A few wins can see the table looking a lot different.”

Next up for Golcar is Goole away (3.00) on Bank Holiday Monday.
