Golcar United have stolen a march on their opponents as they head back to the top of the North West Counties Division One North table as they beat Cleator Moor Celtic 3-2 up in Cumbria with Nick Crane scoring the late winner.
The Weavers are now two points clear at the top with 51 points. Second placed Bury are on 49 and third place Holker are on 46.
Golcar’s rivals both had problems this weekend with Holker losing 3-2 away at Garstang and Bury’s fixture away at Campion was abandoned at half time with the score being 2-2 at the time of the decision. There is no decision yet on when that fixture will be rescheduled for.
On to Golcar’s victory in Cumbria and the match started well enough for the West Yorkshire side. Dan Naidole scored his 18th goal of the campaign in the 12th minute to put the Weavers ahead. Cleator equalised just three minutes later through Ryan Hall.
It was the home side who would score the next goal and take the lead as Liam Johnston found the net on 31 minutes.
Golcar then pulled it back to 2-2 with a goal from in-form Buddy Cox just three minutes before the break.
The Weavers kept at it and finally found a way through when Nick Crane buried his effort into the back of the Cleator net in the 82nd minute to give Golcar the three points.
Next up for United is a trip to Chadderton on December 27.
