Big-hearted Newsome Panthers delivered 100 selection boxes for patients, relatives and staff at The Kirkwood.

Club representatives visited the Dalton-based hospice before Christmas and club chairman Steve Roberts said: “We were delighted we could help spread some festive joy for patients, their families and The Kirkwood’s fantastic nurses.

“It’s only a small gesture but if it helps bring a smile to their faces in what can be difficult circumstances then fantastic. The club is very community driven and without the fantastic people who support us we wouldn’t be able to do what we are able to.

“One person I would like to thank is Gary Scott, who looks after our pitches. He personally donated towards getting these selection boxes and so I wanted to give him a special mention too.”

Duncan Batty, The Kirkwood’s director of income generation and marketing, said: “Newsome Panthers are a fantastic local rugby league club who inspire many children to get into sport. They provide a fantastic community spirit much like we do here at The Kirkwood.

“We are very grateful for this generous donation. Times are tough at the moment but this just shows how different parts of our local area can support each other, so thanks again.”
