Huddersfield boxer Chrissace Mendez has become the first ever two times weight championship Yorkshire belt holder. Defending his belt the confident young man beat his opponent last month in York.
The 16-year-old from Newsome defeated Legions Amateur Harrison Barker in what was a dominant performance.
Chrissace, who is part of the England boxing set up, won a silver medal at the last tri nations tournament. For the fight in York he decided to drop a weight from 75kg to 69kg.
Chrissace fights out of the Gladiators Boxing Academy and coach Den Doyle said: “It was a very tough bout against a top class opponent and both young men went for it from the first bell.
“There was some well timed uppercuts and left hooks which saw Chrissace take the victory on points. We are very proud of him and feel he is improving all the time.”
