A group has been set up in Huddersfield so men can have a walk and a talk together.
The group’s aim is to help men’s mental health and physical wellbeing and will meet every Monday at the Harold Wilson statue in St George’s Square at 6.30pm with the first one on Monday, December 2.
Called Men Walking and Talking, it’s been set up by 37-year-old Steve Gregson, is part of a national organisation of more than 25 groups and is the first to be set up anywhere in Yorkshire.
Steve, who lives in Edgerton after moving from north Wales to Huddersfield a few weeks ago, said: “It’s totally free and if you’re reading this and would like to come along there’s no need to book or anything, just turn up and I’ll be there. We’ll walk roughly 2.5 miles within one hour.
“This is all about creating a safe space and an opportunity for men to open up, get things off their chest and talk about their feelings and emotions.
“Research shows that men find it difficult to talk about their emotions when they are making eye contact with someone and are more likely to open up about what they’re thinking when walking side-by-side.
“If you feel like there is something you want to talk about with like-minded people, if you think you’re a great listener and want to support the community or even if you just want a walk and some good company then come along.”
