Almondbury Wesleyan Cricket Club is planning a big final push aiming to sell out tickets for its Michael Ball picnic-in-the-park event – and there are tentative plans to attract another big star next year.

Michael, Britain’s leading musical theatre star, will take the stage at the village cricket ground on Sunday June 16 2024.

The ‘Harmonies & Hampers’ event will give concert-goers the unique opportunity to see Michael in an informal and relaxed setting.

More than half the 2,000 tickets have been sold and concert-goers are invited to bring with own chairs, blankets and picnics for a summer night to remember.

Concert promoter and club committee member Mark Binns said sales were going well and the aim was to sell out.

Mark, who has contacts in the music industry, said there was a very real possibility that there would be another big star next year – country singer Dolly Parton.

Mark was making no promises but if the Michael Ball concert goes well there’s every chance that Almondbury will be thrust into the spotlight again.

“I never thought we’d be able to secure Michael Ball or anyone of his stature but if you are ambitious and have a track record of doing things well you can pull it off,” he said.

“If this year is a success, then we will be working to bring in Dolly Parton in 2025. Whether this will, in the end, be possible is too far away to say at this point but it has been brought to me as a next possibility.”

Also in June, Michael Ball will be taking over Radio 2’s flagship Sunday Love Songs request show, previously hosted by the late Steve Wright.

At ‘Harmonies & Hampers’ Michael will be supported by special guest Jenna Lee-James, who joins him fresh from London’s West End, where she has been performing as lead character Elsa in the stage version of Disney’s Frozen.

Jenna previously toured with Hugh Jackman as his featured vocalist on his World Arena Tour ‘The Man, The Music, The Show.’

She has worked extensively as a leading artist and soloist in the West End and on tour in the UK, including performing in concert with Take That at London’s 02 Arena. Jenna has also just released her debut album ‘On the Edge’, recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Studios.
