Huddersfield Town Women’s victory over Nottingham Forest kept them in touch with joint leaders AFC Fylde and Derby County.
The Terriers are fourth, six points behind the top two, and last week’s 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest proved their 3-0 victory over Fylde wasn’t a one off.
Town have now won their last seven matches and take on Middlesbrough at the Stafflex Arena on Sunday January 23 (2.00). The visitors are winless in their last five in all competitions, with their last win back in October against Hull City.
The last time the two sides met was in the League Cup in November, as Town ran out 3-2 winners, thanks to a Kate Mallin brace and a goal from Ria Montgomery.
They also met, in the league where Town won 3-1, Montgomery once again on the scoresheet.
Speaking ahead of the game, and reflecting on the Forest win, manager Glen Preston said: “I think the win v Forest was massive for us and especially for the players. It keeps us in the fight.
“We know everything is still out of our control as we rely on the teams above us to drop points but had we lost or even drawn I think we all know the gap would have become too big to overturn in just 12 games.”
Mia Parry, Town’s January signing, made her debut last weekend and impressed her new manager who said: “Mia’s been class since she came in. You can see she’s eager to play and learn.
“She’s already been knocking on my door for extra analysis and feedback and you can’t help but love that level of professionalism.
“Against Forest, she enabled us to change shape to control the opposition better in central areas and I don’t think she lost the ball once! She did a great job.”
