People can have their blood pressure checked for free in Huddersfield’s Kingsgate shopping centre.

More than 1,000 people have already popped into the Blood Pressure Clinic in the centre but with an estimated 30,000 people in Kirklees living with undiagnosed high blood pressure – also known as hypertension – many more need to have theirs checked.

Asghar Khan, pharmacist and owner of Medicare Chemists which runs the clinic, said: “High blood pressure is often referred to as the ‘silent killer’ because it can go unnoticed for years while silently damaging vital organs.

“It often presents no symptoms. Left untreated, it can lead to severe health complications including heart disease, stroke, kidney damage and vision loss.

“Our clinic provides a crucial opportunity for people to assess their cardiovascular health and take proactive steps towards prevention and management.”
