Match For Heroes 3 will be taking place at Golcar United’s Skye Direct Stadium on Sunday May 1. The event is a complete sell-out with 1,400 spectators having bought tickets.

A team of Golcar United legends will be taking on a side full of well known stars from Huddersfield Town’s past as the main event.

The charity match is taking place in memory of Meltham soldier Tom Wroe and colleague Sgt Gareth Thursby killed on duty in Afghanistan in 2012.

Match for Heroes 3 will see Town legends including Marcus Stewart, Darren Bullock, Efe Sodje, Dean Gorre, Chris Billy, Martin Smith and Clyde Wijnhard take part in what should be a cracking day.

On the day there will be two other matches the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment v West Yorkshire Police and an Army Veterans team against Supporting Charities FC. The first match kicks off at 11am with the Golcar v Huddersfield Town fixture getting underway at 3.30pm.

One of the organisers Jonathan Horseman said: “M4H3 has surpassed all our expectations this year with a sell-out crowd for the event. The backing we have had from Golcar United, players, sponsors and supporters has been truly amazing.

“To get 25 ex-pro footballers, a celebrity team, official army and police teams, Golcar legends and the army vets, who served with some of the fallen soldiers, shows how much this event means to so many people.

“The three matches are played for the Graham Shaw and Liam Riley Trophy, the Tom Wroe and Gareth Thursby Trophy and the Warrior 6 Trophy.

“It’s going to be a fantastic day for everyone, we have stalls, rides and football all day!

“All the money raised is going to two fantastic charities 1) Help 4 Homeless Veterans 2) Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.”
