Looking for a fun, interesting and interactive lockdown walk? Here’s two trails to discover in Huddersfield town centre and all you need is a smart phone.

Huddersfield Business Improvement District (BID) has teamed up with award-winning high street app LoyalFree to support town centre businesses and the local community.

Working together, LoyalFree and Huddersfield BID have adapted the LoyalFree app.

Utilising technology, app users can now access safe, fun and family-friendly walking trails around Huddersfield, providing an exciting new way for local people to enjoy their exercise time while keeping to Government guidelines.

Trails have been a popular feature of the LoyalFree app in Huddersfield with over 3,000 trail interactions since the partnership began in 2020.

As part of the 125-year celebrations, an interactive Rugby League Trail has been created giving app users a chance to follow a local journey highlighting 13 momentous Rugby League moments from the past 125 years with interactive video clips at each location.

The trail allows locals to enjoy and discover Huddersfield’s rich rugby history in a safe way. Rugby League, of course, was founded after an historic meeting at the George Hotel in 1895.

Also currently live on the app is the Huddersfield Heritage Trail. This lovely tour through the town centre tells the story of Huddersfield’s past and of its most interesting buildings.

Huddersfield has some great old buildings

With 16 locations to discover you will see some of Huddersfield’s most stunning architecture and listed buildings.

You can start any of these socially-distanced trails on the LoyalFree app and easily see where the next location is with the handy map and directions features.

To take part simply log in on the LoyalFree app, head to the trails section and try them all – it’s completely free!

As businesses begin to re-open the app will also promote events, offers and digital loyalty schemes around the town and can be enjoyed across many areas in Yorkshire and the rest of the UK.

Sophie Hainsworth, co-founder of LoyalFree, said: “In such a testing time for the high streets it is crucial for us to adapt and utilise technology to allow the public to support and enjoy their high street in a safe way. Digital trails are a fun and socially distanced activity for the whole family.”

Matthew Chapman, Huddersfield BID manager, added: “It is fantastic that residents are still able to get out and enjoy an activity that showcases the rich history that Huddersfield has to offer while remaining safe and within the Government guidelines.”
