Kirklees Council has said a big ‘thank you’ to foster carers’ sons and daughters for being so loving and welcoming to children who need care.
During Fostering Sons and Daughters month, the council is more grateful than ever to the Kirklees foster families who show incredible dedication to local children.
The input of sons and daughters within foster families is often overlooked, but it isn’t just adults who foster – it’s the whole family.
Some people who consider fostering are wary of how it will affect their own children, but sons and daughters in Kirklees are testament to the positive impact of growing up in a foster family.
Clr Viv Kendrick, Cabinet member for Children, said: “I’m so proud of the fostering community we have in Kirklees, and, of course, the sons and daughters of our foster carers who all play a huge role in the lives of looked-after children.
“I want to pay tribute to them for creating a loving, safe and friendly environment for other young people.
“Not only do they share their home with children they don’t know, they are also sharing their parents.
“Whilst it can be tricky at times, the reality is that we frequently hear from foster carers that their sons and daughters benefit hugely themselves.
“Many follow a career in the care sector because seeing life from other children’s perspectives can give them a depth of enriching life experiences. We want each and every child who grows up in a fostering family to know just how important they are.”

The council is sending a thank you certificate and a token of its appreciation to all the sons and daughters of foster carers.
Fostering is very much a family affair – everyone helps each other out in their own little ways to ensure the children have the best possible childhoods.
