Choir members and supporters are stepping out to raise money for a great cause.

Members of Honley Male Voice Choir are planning to walk 500 miles, and then walk 500 more – all in the 2024 calendar year.

With apologies to The Proclaimers, the choir has launched its ‘We Will Walk 1,000 Miles for Mental Health & Wellbeing’ to raise funds for Huddersfield mental health charity Platform 1 and the choir.

Those taking part have committed to walking 1,000 miles, which is the equivalent of two MILLION steps over the year, as they work towards achieving honorary ‘Proclaimers’ status.

Platform 1 is a mental health and crisis support charity based in Huddersfield town centre and works in diverse communities throughout Yorkshire offering support and advocacy.

Platform 1 is the choir’s Charity of the Year and the fundraiser aims to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding for anyone experiencing a mental health problem – one step at a time.

Chris Flanagan, of Honley Male Voice Choir, said: “This challenge is a great opportunity not only to get active by walking at least an hour a day, but also to raise vital funds for a mental health and wellbeing charity helping people in our community.”
