Kirklees Council’s Castle Hill ranger Julian Brown is asking for willing volunteers to join him in the #BigBagChallenge during the ‘Great British Spring Clean’ campaign.

The national campaign by Keep Britain Tidy aims to encourage everyone to pick up as much litter as they can between March 25 and April 10.

The #BigBagChallenge litter pick will take place at Castle Hill on Friday March 25 from 10am to 12noon and is open to everyone. All equipment including disposable gloves, sanitiser and litter pickers will be provided.

Clr Naheed Mather, Cabinet member for environment, said: “We were delighted with the response to our last litter pick in February. Thirty willing volunteers turned up on the day and worked incredibly hard to help us collect 23 bags of rubbish.

“It’s disappointing that some visitors continue to leave litter behind at our much-loved landmark but the community response in helping us in our endeavour to keep it safe and clean is inspiring.

“A huge thank you to all who took part and please do join us again at our next event during the Great British Spring Clean.”

To make sure there is enough equipment on the day for everyone who would like to take part, Castle Hill Ranger Julian Brown is asking that anyone wanting to join the litter pick should book a place in advance by contacting him on Tel: 07870 570914 or via email at julian.brown@kirklees.gov.uk.
